Court / Fine Payment Information
Mayor's Court is held every 28 Days on a
Monday Evening. Court starts at 7:00 P.M. and lasts until the last case for
the evening is heard. It is suggested that you be at court no later than 6:30
P.M. so that you may have a conference with your attorney and the Village Prosecutor.
Our Village Clerk accepts cash and personal check for fine payment. If
you do not have the amount of the fine with you, it is suggested that a payment plan be
negotiated with the clerk.
Fine amounts are based upon the infraction
and severity. If you have one prior moving violation in the same calendar year, your
citation will be a Misdemeanor of the 4th degree. Two prior moving violations in the
same calendar year is a Misdemeanor of the 3rd degree. If you already have two
citations on your driving record when you are stopped, you will be ordered into Mayor's
Court to account for the violation.
For most violations, it is possible to
waive a court appearance. To do this, sign the back of the citation on the
line indicated. Mail the payment and citation to the address listed. You will
not be required to attend court. If the citation is marked MUST APPEAR on the front,
you are required to attend.
Some violations such as driving without a
valid Operators License, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, or Driving while
Under Suspension, will result in loss of driving privileges. Your vehicle may
be impounded. You will be assessed a storage fee from the impound lot for each day
of impoundment. This has nothing to do with the village or its administration.
You will have to pay the storage fee prior to having your vehicle
released.
Please see the Calendar page for current
Court Schedule. If you are ordered in to court and cannot make it on the date and
time appointed, you MUST contact the Village Clerk. Failure to do so will
result in a WARRANT for your ARREST. If you are pulled over for any reason,
you will be detained until you take care of the citation.
